Kreis Kleve: Information & key figures

On the Dutch border – on land, water and by air.

Success-oriented, a high export rate and 600 hectares of commercial space available: the district of Kleve is the ideal investment location.

With links to the A 3, A 40 and A 57, the district is well integrated into the international transport network at the border to the Netherlands and as such is the logistics region of the North-West of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Trading at the port in Emmerich on the Rhine is booming. As a result, major investments are being made in expanding the attractive space and services on offer. The most recent addition here, the company Konica-Minolta, which relocated its central European sales operations from Bremen to Emmerich, is testament to the prime situation of the Niederrhein. Konica-Minolta is benefitting from the proximity to the Netherlands, the direct access to the sea port Rotterdam and the flexible services offered in Emmerich.

Airport Weeze a symbol of the positive development

At Airport Weeze the passenger numbers are soaring to unexpected heights. Just a few months ago the airport managers were busy trying to work out how to reach the milestone of one million passengers a year. Now they are facing the real possibility of three million people soon using Airport Weeze as their take-off and landing point. The airport offers an attractive springboard for over 40 destinations all over Europe and North Africa for both business travelers and tourists alike. An incredible development for a flagship project which has become symbolic of Kleve District’s progress.

Attractive future plans in all areas of the district

The people in North Rhine-Westphalia are “lurking” around the district town of Kleve with an expression of hope on their faces: for this is where the new university, the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, is about to start its first semester. More than 150 million euros are expected to be invested in order to give young people in particular greater prospects for the future.

At the top of the agenda for the county town of Kleve is the plan to revitalize the port, which is linked to Europe’s largest waterway via canals and old branches of the Rhine. Close to the city, developments in the fields of living, work, retail, services and tourism are being encouraged.

Investors with a feel for profitable future projects and on the look-out for attractive challenges will come up trumps in Goch and Emmerich. The former Bundeswehr barracks here are waiting for fresh new ideas.

In the Duke town of Geldern the conversion of the former railway grounds is making progress. The new public authorities center, which houses the inland revenue and the police, is being connected to the town center with a new underpass. The other lots of land will be developed and marketed in sections immediately.
